Hi,
I emerged from the cabbage patch in Edmonton, Alberta, and spent my first years in lovely Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. I moved to Vancouver Island at the ripe old age of 23, and I have travelled near and far, but always return home to the island that I adore.
I have spent my career in food-cooking, cheffing, managing, food safety – and years managing have left me yearning to go back to my creative side – but I need a job that is less physical. I am passionate about colour, and movement, and depth in the world around me, and a great artist friend once said to me: “Shawna, you are an artist, you just haven’t found your art!”. I sincerely hope I have found my art in the world of design!
I am registered in Web Design Fundamentals at North Island College. This year, my goal is to develop my technological skills, explore design, and learn from both my instructors and fellow classmates. I am excited to network with people from other backgrounds and experience levels! One of the reasons I chose this particular program was that I could move on from certificate to diploma to degree, I love learning, and changing careers in middle age will be a very steep learning curve!
My future goal is a creative and remote job, hopefully where I can help others learn or excel in their own careers! I love asking “why do we do things this way?” and finding solutions to long-standing problems.
